The service that paid back!

The sisters came home early because their appointments cancelled.  So they wanted to do service….they offered to go through all my old clothes to decide which I was going to keep and which would go to charity!

So they served me…and in return they got to keep a bunch of things that I was going to get rid of…so I got to serve them!!

I deserve a medal

I covered the sunbeam class today…I really think I deserve a medal.  I would sooner cover ANY other class, but I find the sunbeams SUPER challenging.  It was fun, but I was very glad when it was over!

One of the girls kept calling me "grandma", she didn't even correct herself - she just kept calling me grandma. I feel like I should include her in my will!!

Music

The sisters asked me to put some music on their USB sticks today - they aren't allowed to use the computer, so it was a pleasure to help them with that!

Oh, and I bought a fish for the sunbeams class tomorrow.  The lesson is about fish, and I thought it would be cool to have a real one there!

Lunch for the girls

I provided lunch for the sister missionaries today - it was easy, I didn't even cook it for them, they just helped themselves; but I know they are grateful that they get to eat whatever they want from my house.

I also think I will start adding photo's to this blog where possible going forward.  At the end of the year I will get this printed up as a reminder.  I also need to be more creative about service that I offer.  I think that will be easier at weekends rather than when I'm at work :)

….and then, a service opportunity landed in my lap this evening.  Carter Hudson called and asked if I could pick him up from drivers ed and take him home, because his mum and dad were working in the temple at the time he would be ready.  I really love it when people ask for help!

Day 40

This was an interesting one.  I gave my friend a ride to the Pathway meeting tonight, but she mentioned that she had to stay an extra hour because she had a singing practice with a small vocal group she sings with.  I offered to stay, I figured I could do some homework while I waited.  So I went into the room where they were practicing and was about to just do some work….Janis (the director) invited me to join the group (I have sung with her many times) - so I did!  This service turned out to be a great blessing for me!

I think I am going to start putting titles rather than day numbers from here on.

Day 39

Today was a bit of a stretch….I don't think I really did anything; but I did take the sisters garbage out.  Weak service at best :(

Day 38

I completed a piece of work on the separation process that one of OD specialists was working on.  She had lots of other critical things on her plate and was grateful that I could finish things up for her :)

Day 37

First day back at work for 2 weeks.  After work I went to return some trousers and received a store credit for the return.   I gave the store credit to a friend - she was very grateful :)

Day 36

Sunday is always a good opportunity for service.  Today someone asked me if I could cover her sunbeams class next week.  I willingly accepted although I must confess the sunbeams scare me a little :)  Last time I covered this class I realized I needed to prepare much more to keep them engaged for a full 50 minutes :)

Day 35

First full day back to normal.  With the help of the sister missionaries, I dug out a bunch of British things for a friend who's son is going to the UK on a mission and she wanted to decorate her house for his open house….she loved the stuff :)

Day 34

Flew home today, it's so nice to be back.  I received a lot of service today.  My best friend picked me up from the airport and settled me in at home, my visiting teacher bought some groceries for me to save me having to go out.
I lent some dresses to my best friend (I'm glad she asked otherwise I wouldn't have done anything today!)

Day 33

We went to a mall in Puerto Vallarta today and I bought juice for everyone

Day 32

I actually was planning to move to a hotel today; but the other ladies asked me to stay at the house - so I did (I don't think this counts, because I think I did it begrudgingly!)

Day 31

Left hospital and stayed in a house close by with some other patients, we went shopping and I bought enough fruit juice and water for everyone

Day 30

Still in hospital…talked with the other patients and tried to give some support

Day 29

I think I failed today - just recovering from surgery, and I'm sure I could have found something if I tried hard enough…I just didn't :(

Day 28

In Mexico for surgery. In a hospital room all day, I don't think service even crossed my mind - except that maybe I was exceptionally forgiving to the nurse who seemed to struggle with my IV :)
